The worse frame of mind? There is a way!

Are you in a bad mood, you lack motivation, do you feel bad? We all have moments like this from time to time. There can be many reasons for feeling unwell, but that is not what I will write about here. We are not interested in the reasons, but the solutions. What can we do to make the bad mood go away to make us feel better? Here are some of the most effective ways for me:

1. Make a list. Sometimes our minds are overwhelmed by thoughts that are beyond us. These can be problems that overlap while remaining unresolved. The best way to deal with them is to make a list. Take a piece of paper and a pen, and then write down everything that is on your mind in points. List all possible reasons why you feel worse. It will give you great relief and a feeling of being in control of the situation. Building a list in itself is a good way to feel better, and also the best starting point for working on the things you've listed there.

2. Act. Now that you have a list, think about what you can do about the things that are making you feel uncomfortable. If it's some kind of unpleasant situation, look for some positive aspects in it. If you have been upset about someone, think about the positive intentions that person might have had. If it is a task that is too much for you - divide it into smaller parts and take care of them. Smaller pieces are much easier to bite and just getting started will lift your spirits.

3. Get out of the house. Sometimes just sitting at home makes you feel unwell. Sometimes when you have a problem with your mind, staying in your four corners prevents you from solving it. Take a walk in the fresh air and you will see how much can change. You will gain a new perspective on some matters, you will relax. Go to a place you've never been before and watch your surroundings with interest.

4. Play upbeat music. With moderate humor, you always want to listen to sad music. In the beginning, it is more pleasant to listen to because it fits our mood, but it will not improve it. Instead, turn on the music that you listen to when you are cheerful. After a few songs, you will see that you feel significantly better.

5. Practice. Exercise is one of the best ways to feel better. Why? As you exercise, your brain releases endorphins, the happiness hormones. Just 20 minutes of exercise and your well-being will be much better!

6. Do something for someone. Help a loved one solve a problem, talk to someone. Surprise someone or give someone a compliment. The fact of giving pleasure to the other person will improve the well-being of both them and you!

7. Smile. We usually smile when we feel great. Interestingly, it also works the other way around! The brain does not react indifferently to the grimace created by the tension of the appropriate facial muscles, which we call a smile. When we smile, the brain produces endorphins. Pleasant emotions are very strongly associated with smiling. So even if it seems inappropriate to the situation, smile a few times. And then a few more times! :)

If you are still not enough and you could use more ways to make yourself feel better, read this post on getting rid of negative emotions. There I present 3 ways in the field of NLP that are fast and effective.
